Kate is centered as of 10 p.m. EST about 175 miles (280 km) north-northeast of the Northwest Bahamas, moving toward the north near 16 mph (26 km/h). A turn toward the northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected on Tuesday. On the forecast track, Kate is expected to remain well offshore of the east coast of the United States.
All coastal warnings for the Bahamas have been discontinued. Swells generated by Kate are affecting the eastward-facing beaches in the northwestern Bahamas. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
