There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but interests in Bermuda should monitor the progress of Kate. Swells will begin to affect Bermuda tonight and continue through Wednesday, likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening during the next day or so is forecast, and Kate is expected to become a hurricane tonight. It’s forecast to lose tropical characteristics Wednesday night or Thursday, but remain a powerful cyclone through that time.
